Shortly before 7:30 p.m. on March 29, officers from the New Canaan Police Department were dispatched to a residence on Main Street, where there was a report of a dispute that had taken place between the caller and Stratford resident Julius Simmons, 48, who proceeded to leave the residence before police could arrive.
According to police, less than a half hour later, officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Laurel Road, where there was a new report of a single-vehicle car crash, involving a driver - later identified as Simmons - who crashed into a stone wall and bushes off the roadway before fleeing the scene again before investigators arrived.
Police said that investigators received a third report shortly after the crash of an individual walking on Smith Ridge Road that physically matched the description of Simmons, and he was taken into custody.
Simmons was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, second-degree criminal mischief and cited for leaving the scene of an accident where there was property damage. Simmons was held on $2,500 and is due back in court on Monday afternoon to answer the charges.
